SoHo House…
Last night was Craigs surprise 40th birthday party at the SoHo House in the city. It was a great time and Erin did a FANTASTIC job organizing everything. I think he was actually very surprised. Everyone there was so great.
So for the party, it was in a room on the 5th floor. Very nice great music (let me pat myself on the back). And after the party was over, the late stayers got to go up to the roof deck to have another drink. But let me just say this about SoHo house. I get there are “rules”. And i get that celebrities go there and everything (which none were there last night…but then again it was tuesday night), but give me a break. The woman who was involved in the party was upstairs as “security”. So she clearly knew the few of us were down at the party with Erin (who is a member) and Craig (who’s birthday party it was and is ALSO a member). Craig and Erin were downstairs getting all the presents in order and taking care of the end of the party. So Me, Declan, Chad, and another couple went up cause they told us they would be right up. So Declan is the head of the pack…and talks to this woman. She said “oh are you a member?” and declan, of course is not. So she said “oh im sorry sir. you are not allowed onto the deck without a member.” And he said “oh well you realize it was craigs birthday that erin set up…and she is on the board AND a member here.” And to that she responds…and i am not kidding, “yes, and it will be a WONDERFUL time when she gets here and you can come onto the floor. Please stand here to the side until she comes.”
Like i said, I get that they have rules. No doubt. But I am just so glad that i dont find the need to be in that “scene” on a regular basis. Seeing all the people up there on that roof…most of them were VERY snobby and felt very self righteous. Dont get me wrong, I had a great time and love seeing scenes like that every now and again. But damn. Its like a whole other world.
So moral of the story, if you ever go to the SoHo house….make sure you know that in the eyes of most of the staff, if you are not a member….youre a piece of trash off the street.
